Biochemistry Clinical (SJH)

INTRODUCTION : The department of Biochemistry is in existence since1954.During the initial period the department carried out only a limited number of biochemical tests.

            

With the development of clinical biochemistry, it’s importance in diagnosis and prognosis became well established. Consequently the spectrum of biochemical tests was enlarged to better the diagnostic services. The department caters to the biochemical investigations  of the entire hospital in-patients as well as out-patients .

 

The department also caters to the ART clinic patients and CGHS beneficiaries without any budgetary or manpower support from ART clinic or CGHS. About 42 different routine and specialized types of biochemical tests are done in our laboratory.

 

The department carries out approx six to seven lakh tests per year and approx 2000 tests per day.

GENERAL ACTIVITIES: 

                          INVESTIGATIONS AND PATIENT CARE

( I )Collection of specimens : The department maintains two out-patient specimen collection centers, manned by the departmental staff. Apart from center collection, there is a separate collection center in the department itself for Blood sugar Fasting and PP, GTT & Lipid profile tests .

(II)    Pre-analytical sample sorting and serum separation for all the blood samples.

(III)   Analysis and reporting of routine, special and urgent tests:

         The analysis of samples is done on fully automated chemistry Analyzers (Hitachi 911, 912 and 902), Beckman Coulter Cx5 Pro & Ion selection Electrolyte and Analyzer (AVL 9180).          

(IV) Ward & OPD wise sorting  and dispatch of reports  to respective wards and out-patients department and special clinics.

 

TEACHING : The faculty is involved  in the various teaching

programmes of the institute  like MBBS , MLT, DNB, MRO/MRT

training programmers, BSC Nursing  etc.

  

RESEARCH:     The faculty is involved in guiding thesis and other Research works of the institute and  the department provides various  biochemical tests for research programmers in various other departments of the hospital as well as to post- graduate students.

 

 

 

 

                   

 

                 

 

     

           

 

Staff Members: The staff members of department actively participate in various competition related to HINDI language and many staff member have been awarded prizes.

  • Done course on Hospital administration from National Institute of Health & Family welfare New Delhi in 1996. 
  • Done Training programme on Health and Hospital Management from AIIMS New Delhi in 1999. 
  • Awarded W.H.O. fellowship in 2001. 
  • Done course on Hospital administration from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand in 2001.
