Location : College Building, VMMC

The department was set up in Dec 2001 at the inception of the Vardhman Mahavir Medical College. It is involved in the teaching of MBBS students. The first batch of MBBS students joined in Feb 2002. Since then the department has taught five batches of 1^st Professional MBBS students. The current batch is the 6^th batch. The teaching involves over 500 hours per year and includes lectures, tutorials, practical, demonstrations, problem based learning, student seminars and day-to-day evaluation. Many students have achieved distinctions during the university examination. The post graduate MD Biochemistry course is to be started soon. The department has two posts of senior residents and four technicians.

The department is also teaching MLT students and BSc. Nursing students.

Dr B.C. Kabi did his MBBS from Utkal University Orissa and MD Biochemistry from BHU. He has also done  PhD from Delhi University . He was Professor at Maulana Azad Medical College before joining VMMC and SJH in 2002 as HOD. He has published many Research Papers and has undergone many specialized Trainings. He has supervised many MD thesis .

Dr Charanjeet Kaur passed  her MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College in 1991 and the DGO from same institute in 1994. She did her MD Biochemistry from V.P. Chest institute in 1998 and then joined as senior Resident at Maulana Azad Medical College in 1998. In Dec . 2001 when VMMC was established , she joined as Assistant Professor in Department of Biochemistry.  Apart from teaching she is also working in Clinical Biochemisty Lab of SJH.

Dr Anita Rani did her MBBS and MD from Rohtak Medical College and Senior Residency from UCMS. She joined the Department in 2004 as Assistant Professor.
