Teaching/Training

8. The Department of Community Medicine is a nodal centre for Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP).

9. Coordination of medical examination of students at the time of admission.

10. Helping in conducting examination, setting question papers and other designated functions of National Board of Examination.

11. Organizing conference, workshops and seminars on various public health topics.

12. Conducting research in public health issues.

13. Conducting health awareness activities.

14. Organizing health camps for the community in collaboration with Non-governmental organizations.

15. Publishing high quality research work, textbooks, pamphlets, editorials, news items, etc.,

16. Advising central and state government and health institutions on public health issues.

17. Conducting health survey and investigation of epidemics and implementing preventive and control measures particularly dengue, malaria, diarrheal diseases, etc.

Three Health Centers are attached with Department of Community medicine:

Primary Health Center– FATEHPUR BERI

PHC, Fatehpur Beri is located at a distance of 20 km from VMMC. It caters to a population of 73,000.

Research Studies are undergoing in following public health areas:

1.      A study of depression among adolescents attending government schools in a rural area of Delhi.

2.      Birth preparedness and complication readiness among the pregnant women of the area.

3.      Effect of IEC on disaster preparedness among geriatric population.

 

Rural Health Training Center– NAJAFGARH:  

The center is located at a distance of 35 km. from VMMC. It caters to a population of 1, 60,000.

Activities at RHTC – Najafgarh

7. Outreach activities:

a) Health camp at villages/slum areas under RHTC incorporating outreach OPD services, health education, family planning counselling, nutritional counselling and immunisation services.

b) Health education to adolescent girls in nearby schools under the Kishori Shakti Yojana.

c) Monthly health services to sweet home girls' ashram (Care home for children in need of care and protection), Najafgarh.

 

Research Studies are undergoing in following public health areas:

1. Study of new-born care practices in recently delivered mothers of Najafgarh, Delhi.

2. Epidemiological study of Iron deficiency anaemia and status of sputum conversion in pulmonary tuberculosis patients attending DOTS centre, Najafgarh Delhi”

3. A study of Vitamin D status among TB patients attending DOTS centre, RHTC Najafgarh.”

4. Effect of Information, Education and Communication activities on health literacy of lifestyle diseases among school going adolescents.

5. Nutritional counselling of mother and children attending ANC clinic.

 

Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC)-Aliganj

Initially started as Urban Health Training Centre in Pillanji, an urbanized village in Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi, this UHTC was shifted in 2012 to the Community Centre, Aliganj, another adjoining urbanized village in Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi. The UHTC caters to residents of the urbanised villages of Aliganj, Pillanji, and Kotla Mubarakpur as well as nearby areas of Bapu Park, Sewa Nagar and Jor Bagh.

2.      Assessment of growth & development in children under 2 years of age in an urbanised village of Delhi.

3.      An epidemiological study on hypothyroidism among the postmenopausal women of Aliganj, Delhi.

4.      Assessment of non-communicable disease risk factor among the adult population of Aliganj, Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi.

5.      Assessment of Anganwaadi Centres in Aliganj, Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi.
